“The Pursuit of Your Dream” Written By: Diana Rhodes How many of us can say we are exactly where we want to be in life?  How many of us can say we are doing what we always wanted to do?   Welcome  To “Black Hollywood”! Written By: Diana Rhodes An industry cultural shift finds its home in Georgia... Atlanta has always been special to me. Before I moved here, I visited every year and reported to the now defunct Georgia Dome to be a part of the magnificent “Battle of The Bands”.  It made me proud to be a black woman every time I witnessed the magnificent showmanship of our elite HBCU bands. (Shout out to the Alabama State “Honeybeez”!) These days, I have a new sense of pride. I officially live in the Atlanta area and I am proud to be a part of what is now known as “Black Hollywood”. What exactly is Black Hollywood? Quite frankly, it is a culture shift that has found its home in Georgia. The shift includes a cadre of black filmmakers, screenwriters, actors and actresses, models, producers.  You name it, we are here and we are connecting and thriving. We are telling our stories from our perspectives and it feels wonderful to finally be able to do so afte...

For a week she waits by the phone for a callback. Disappointed when she doesn’t hear back, she replays the audition back in her mind. Jordan wonders what she can do to increase her chances of being cast on future roles.  First, she looks at her headshots which she had taken by a professional. She knew they were in line with industry standards. Next, she thought about what she did upon her arrival. She went to a corner away from the other talent to continue working on her sides. She didn’t chit chat with the other people in the room. Then, when called into the room, she didn’t approach the people behind the table, she greeted them warmly, and gave the required information. She avoided giving details of her personal life. Jordan left her purse in her car because...
